Having a chat with the "Girls".......

Having a chat with the girls on the upper portion of a local farm, I truly felt at peace,no stress-no tension-no clinched teeth; it was wonderful. I had taken a short ride to clear my head, to smell the roses as we say. Well it didn't exactly smell like roses there but with a little breeze there was a nice earthy, fresh chewed grass smell. I don't really remember exactly how long I was there; but none the less, it did the trick. On that day my "third place" was just down the road.

  1. Once upon a time there was a beautiful THIRD PlACE in town for people in Pine Plains. ....then the TOWN ( dunno WHO ) decided to put up a hideous chain link gated fence spanning the entire beach and marring the beauty of Stissing Lake and the mountain behind it. They open it from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. WHEN there are lifeguards on duty during most of the summer. People are on the beach at 6 when the sun is at a magical angle......when all of a sudden it is slammed shut. I have proposed a gate consisting of a bar 24 in. above the ground erected at the entrance to the lake at the parking lot in lieu of this UGLY UGLY structure erected directly on our beach. So far....nothing has been done to do this. Spoke to our NYS Assemblyman about this and he said there are funds to dig this thing up. People from Millerton come here, too. It is a very special spot which 'older folk' 'round these parts remember well from their childhood. This view of the lake is one of Pine Plain's finest assets. A field of grass does'nt do it for a lot of us who's souls are fed by a body of water. Any suggestions? This is absolutely RUINING THE REAL ESTATE VALUES .

  4. Reminds me of a time many years ago when I took Etsuko for a long ride through the countryside - she was so thrilled because she doesn't drive and her husband and daughter typically take her to wherever she has to go; no deviations like when she goes somewhere with me.............. anyway, we wound up parked alongside the road near a pasture of cows which looks a bit like yours however in this pasture those sly "girls" turned out to have a boy or two keeping them company and before my dear, innocent friend Etsuko's eyes (and to my delight) they started getting frisky and I don't mean cat-like........... ! We still laugh over this and she says she'll never forget it !
    Thanx for the memories. Lori

  5. Cows don't do it for water people. We HAVE to have a body of water nearby and not just some stupid farm pond.
